Getting Started
The booking process with us depends on what you are planning.
Reception only: If you are interested in hiring the spaces for a reception, you can send an enquiry to check availability and discuss your plans. We will confirm the details and provide you with a quote. If you are happy, we will finalise your booking and issue your deposit invoice. From there it’s over to you to plan your day. We will be in touch closer to the time to confirm the practical details and you are welcome to come and see the spaces at any point before your day.
Ceremony and reception (or ceremony only): Ceremonies involve a little more coordination. The process works like this:
- Get in touch with us to check availability for your preferred date. We will hold your date provisionally for up to 7 days.
- Contact Wakefield Council to book your registrar.
- Once your registrar is confirmed, get back in touch with us to finalise your booking and pay your deposit.
From there, we will check in with you at three points in the lead-up to your wedding:
- 8 weeks out — to go through your plans, suppliers and timings
- 4 weeks out — to finalise everything: ceremony detail, room setup, music and anything else we need to make the day run smoothly
- 1 week out — a final touch base to make sure everything is in order
If you have any questions about the process at any point, just get in touch and we will talk you through it.
Yes. You can hold your ceremony, reception, or both here. The spaces can be used across the whole day. Please note, we don’t provide a master of ceremonies or on-the-day coordinator, so you’ll need to think about how the flow of the day is managed.
We don’t offer exclusive hire of the whole venue. The Large Hall comes with its own private bar and is exclusively yours for your event. The Assembly Room uses our public bar, which is open on weekday evenings and weekends.
The gardens can be used for your ceremony, with your area sectioned off, though the wider grounds are not exclusively yours. You are also welcome to access the gardens for photos throughout your event.
If exclusivity is important to you, we’d recommend discussing your plans with us so we can find the right setup.
No and that’s intentional. We’re a blank canvas venue, which means you hire the spaces you need and build your day around them, rather than choosing from a set menu of options someone else has put together.
What we provide is the space, a fully stocked and staffed bar, BBC-standard PA and AV equipment, tables and chairs, and a team on hand to make sure the day runs smoothly. The rest; catering, entertainment, décor, photography, and everything else is yours to arrange in whatever way suits you.
For a full picture of what’s included in your hire and what you’ll need to arrange, take a look at our Planning Your Day page.
Yes. We don’t provide in-house catering, entertainment or styling, so bringing in your own suppliers is very much part of how a day at The Grange works.
You’re free to choose whoever you like for catering, your DJ or band, floristry, décor, photography, and anything else your day needs. We have a list of recommended suppliers if you’d like a starting point, but there’s no obligation to use them.
All external suppliers bringing equipment or installations onto site must provide the following documentation no later than four weeks before the event:
- Public liability insurance (minimum £5 million)
- Risk assessment
- PAT testing certificate (if using powered equipment)
- Gas safety certificate (if applicable — for example, catering suppliers using gas)
- Food hygiene certification (for any catering supplier)
This applies to caterers, entertainment, outdoor structures, and any other supplier setting up on site. Suppliers who cannot provide the required documentation may not be permitted to bring their equipment onto the premises.
If you have questions about a specific supplier or setup, just get in touch and we’ll let you know where things stand.
Pricing is based on the spaces you hire and the nature of your celebration. You can get an idea of our room hire rates on our Spaces & Pricing page. For a tailored quote, get in touch and we will put something together based on your plans.
Ceremonies
Yes. We are fully licensed for civil ceremonies, including marriages and civil partnerships, as well as vow renewals and naming ceremonies.
Once you’ve confirmed your date with us, you book and pay for your registrar directly through Wakefield Council. We can point you in the right direction when you enquire.
Please note that registrar availability is managed entirely by the council and is outside of our control. Once your ceremony is booked with them, you will need to contact us again to finalise your booking.
Planning and Access
We don’t have accommodation at The Grange, but there are options nearby. We’re happy to share suggestions when you enquire.
We can’t guarantee access the evening before, as another event may be running. We will confirm availability 48 hours before your wedding. If you’ve booked the venue for a full day, we can offer early morning access on the day itself.
Yes, though this would need to be arranged as a separate space hire. Get in touch and we can talk through options.
No, you hire the spaces and plan the day yourselves. Take a look at our Planning Your Day page for a full picture of what’s included and what you’ll need to arrange.
Yes. You are free to bring in whoever you like. We ask that all external suppliers hold appropriate public liability insurance and relevant health and safety documents, depending on the supplier type.
We also have a list of recommended suppliers if you’d like a starting point.
We don’t offer an in-house wedding planning service. The Grange is a blank canvas venue, which means we provide the spaces and you plan the day your way.
We don’t provide a master of ceremonies or anyone to manage the full running of your day. A member of our staff will be present for your ceremony and our caretakers and bar team will be on hand throughout.
Beyond that, you’ll need to arrange someone to manage the flow of the day, whether that’s a supplier you bring in or someone you trust.
What’s Included
We do not provide in-house catering, so you are welcome to bring your own catering or use external caterers. Please note that kitchen facilities are not available and all catering must be fully self-contained and prepared off-site. Hirers are fully responsible for food safety, hygiene and allergen management.
Yes, tables and chairs are included in your hire.
No. Table linen, chair covers and other decorations need to be sourced and brought in by you or your suppliers.
Yes. We have BBC-standard PA equipment on site.
Depending on your requirements, you may also need to hire our sound engineer. We can advise on this when you discuss your plans with us.
No. As a blank canvas venue, we don’t provide decorating services. We’d recommend either doing it yourselves or finding an external supplier who can manage this for you.
On the Day
Yes, parking is available on site at the front of the building, with an overflow car park at the back.
Our bar licence runs until 11pm. Please note that all music and amplified sound must also finish by 11pm to respect the local community.
No. The Grange operates a strict policy prohibiting alcohol being brought onto the premises. All drinks must be purchased through our bar. Any alcohol brought on site will be confiscated.
Yes, children are welcome. Please note that children must leave the public Drawing Room bar by 9pm.
We ask that confetti cannons aren’t used inside the building. Speak to us about other options and we can advise.
Yes. You’re welcome to dress the spaces as you like. All decorations and temporary installations must be approved in advance, and everything must be removed at the end of your hire. Clients are responsible for any damage caused by decorations or installations.
The client is responsible for the conduct of all guests throughout the event. The Grange reserves the right to restrict or terminate an event if behaviour is unsafe, unlawful, or disruptive.
Bookings and Payments
Once you’ve reviewed your quote, we will hold your date for one week. To confirm, simply reply by email and we will issue an invoice for the 25% non-refundable deposit, which is due within two days of receipt.
Payments are staged across your planning period:
- 25% non-refundable deposit to secure the date
- 50% interim payment at an agreed midpoint
- Final balance due no later than eight weeks before your wedding
The 25% deposit is non-refundable. If you cancel after further payments have been made, those payments may be retained where costs have been incurred or where we’re unable to rebook the date. If cancellation occurs within eight weeks of the event, the full balance remains payable. Any decisions regarding refunds or rescheduling are made at our discretion.
No. We welcome celebrations of all sizes.
